Our Heritage-යාපහුව බලකොටුව

අනුරාධපුරයෙන් ඇරඹි ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ රාජධානි සොළී ආක්‍රමණ සහ ස්වභාවික ආපදා තත්ත්වයන් නිසා ක්‍රමයෙන් නිරිත දිගට සංක්‍රමණය විය. එම සංක්‍රාන්තියේ සිවුවන නැවතුම්පොළ වූයේ යාපහුව රාජධානියයි. කුරුණෑගල දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ මහව ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාශයේ මහව මංසන්දියට කිලෝමීටර 04ක් පමණ වයඹ දිශාවෙන් පිහිටි යාපහුව 13 වන සියවසේ දශකයක් පමණ කෙටි කාලසීමාවක් සඳහා දිවයිනේ අගනගරය බවට පත්ව තිබූ පර්වත ආශ්‍රිත පැරණි නගරයකි. පොළොන්නරුව රාජධානි සමයෙන් පසුව නිරන්තර ඇතිවූ විදේශීය ආකුමණ හමුවේ වැදගත් රාක්‍ෂාස්ථානයක් ලෙස යොදාගත් බවට සාක්ෂි ඇති මෙම පුරාස්ථානය පෞරාණිකත්වය අතින් ඉනිදු බෙහෙවින් ඈත වකවානුවක පටන් ජනාවාසයක් ලෙස පැවතුණකි. ප්‍රාග් ඓතිහාසික අවධියට අයත් ජනාවාස සාධක සහිත යාපහුව සහ තදාසන්න ප්‍රදේශය පූර්ව ඓතිහාසික සමයේදීත් මූල ඓතිහාසික සමයේදීත් වැදගත් ජනාවාසයක් විය. මේ වගට පුරාවිද්‍යාත්මක සාධක අනුසාරයෙන් සාක්‍ෂි ඵලවන්නේ වුවද යාපහුව පිළිබඳ මුල්ම විස්වසනීය ලිඛිත මූලාශ්‍රගත සදහන් 13 වන සියවසට බොහෝ දුරට සීමාවෙයි. සුභ නම් ප්‍රාදේශීය පාලකයෙකු කාලිංග මාඝගේ ආක්‍රමණ සමයේ යාපහුවේ බලකොටුවක් සහ නගරයක් ගොඩනංවා එහි සිට එම ප්‍රදේශය පාල

Sri Lanka's first disaster alert system launched today

(Colombo Lankapuvath January 30) The new network to inform the public about disasters was launched by the Disaster Management Centre in Sri Lanka today (30) at BMICH. The Disaster Management Centre will inform the relevant district Disaster Management Centers and the relevant districts which will be affected by the disaster. The network system will be set up in the populated areas. The system will release a signal indicating the disaster while a prior notice will be given. Meanwhile a sms system to inform the public on the disaster will also begin through a GSM network called the “Cell Broadcast”. At the beginning these alerts will only be received by the “Dialog” users. Hiding Place of Prabhakaran Found In Visuamadu Jungle

Troops of the 57 Division under the command of Major General Jagath Dias have located a high profile LTTE hideout including an underground bunker while engaged in mop-up operations in the Visuamadu jungle, yesterday (30). The LTTE hideout was well fortified and concealed from air detection, security sources said. According to available information the site was frequented by the LTTE Leader Prabakaran and senior cadres. The underground bunker was air conditioned and constructed beneath a luxury compartment with bullet proof doors. A soundproof generator was used for electric power supply for the compartment and the underground bunker. An elevator used between the bunker and the overhead construction was also found which troops state as the first ever instance that security forces have come across such. DMK flays LTTE for not responding to 48-hour ceasefire

The Ruling DMK yesterday sharply criticised the LTTE for not responding to the 48-hour ceasefire declared by the Sri Lankan Government in the Vanni region to evacuate civilians caught in the fighting between the Army and the Tigers. The LTTE had not given any word on the safe passage of Tamils in the conflict zone, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister and DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan said in the State Assembly. Replying to a mention by Congress whip S.Peter Alphones in this regard, he said even after last night's (Thursday's) announcement of the ceasefire by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, LTTE leader V Prabhakaran and his cadres did not come forward to reciprocate it. UN agencies had also welcomed the new move by the Sri Lankan government, said Anbhazhagan, who faced questions from the members on the issue for the second day in the absence of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who is indisposed. LTTE sea tiger 'group leader' killed in confrontation- Mullaittivu

Sri Lankan Army, 58 Division infantrymen forced into an LTTE hideout in general area Piramanthalkulama, Mullaittivu, reportedly killing an LTTE sea tiger 'group leader' identified as Arivu, today (Jan 31)at around 12.50p.m. LTTE terrorists were preparing for an assault at the time of the surprise military incursion which left many terrorists killed and others fleeing in total disarray, security sources said. Further search operations are continuing in the area. Meanwhile, 7 other terrorists were also killed sniped in separate locations Northeast of Piramanthalkulama and North of Visuamadu, military sources said.

Underground built two storied, luxury LTTE hideout found- Mullaittivu

11 SLLI (11th Sri Lanka Light Infantry) troops of the 58 Division now operating in general area Piramanthalkulama at the Mullaittivu battlefront have reportedly found a two storied underground LTTE hideout today (Jan 31). According to military sources, the LTTE hideout was fully air conditioned and electricity current supplied through 3 sound proof power generators. The hideout with its luxury interior is said to be a site frequented by the terror chief and senior cadres of the terrorist outfit. 9 gas weapons, a large quantity of gas masks, a sub-machine gun and two LTTE bodies were also found during further search operations conducted, security sources said.
