200ft hight mobile communication tower found

Several rounds of heavy fighting erupted in UDAYARKATTUKULAM and UDAYARKATTU areas Sunday (01) between troops and LTTE during Sunday (01) where troops were able to find out a foreign-made huge transmission/communication tower, kept folded perhaps for future use.

Task Force-111 troops after intense clashes in UDAYARKATTU area first spotted the LTTE camp and saw this huge communication tower, about 200 ft in length.

Troops also found seven T-56 weapons, thirty rounds of ammunition, four hand grenades, one 1210 lorry, ninety three anti personnel mines, two I-com radio sets, a number of kerosene barrels and five LTTE dead bodies.

Troops captured one MPMG (Multi Purpose Machine Gun) barrel, one 12.7 anti aircraft gun barrel, five T-56 weapons, one LMG (Light Machine Gun), fifteen RPG (Rocket Propeller Grenade) rounds, fifty anti personnel mines, three huts, occupied by the terrorists, one excavator, one container, one van and one motorbike.

A few soldiers injured in the fighting in those two areas were referred for medical treatment.

Five soldiers had gone reportedly missing during the battle. Search operations commenced to trace their whereabouts are still on.
